There are always great things to do in Mexico City, like going to world-class traditional festivals and retail malls, music festivals, museums, parades, and famous street cuisine.

2) San Miguel de Allende

When I first arrived in San Miguel de Allende, I was taken aback by the sight! It’s such a beautiful city that is among the top places to visit in Mexico during winter.

It was astonishing to me that I was still in Mexico. I had visited colonial towns previously, but this one really took it to level 11 (meaning it was unbelievable).

There is so much happening that you’ll want to enjoy it permanently. That is why the municipality is one of the top cities where expats live during their retirement.

The village, with its winding cobblestone alleys, colorful cottages with eclectic colors, and a tall pink church in the middle of town, was vividly and oddly like a fairy tale.

It’s not surprising that so many retirees and those who desire a slower, more peaceful existence choose San Miguel. It’s small, easy to get around, and quite nice to look at.

But it’s not simply a gorgeous town; it’s also a terrific location to live where people know each other.

It is recently becoming a highly regarded retirement destination because of the lovely weather, walkable streets, and a lower cost of living than the US.

You can’t go wrong here because Ajijic has everything you need!

There are several organizations, social events, and activities in this neighborhood that will make you feel at home immediately.

Plus, the tranquility and feeling of being welcome are unexplainable. Many people in our Facebook group described these as common feelings, and I personally experienced them.

Coincidentally, I visited this location during the wintertime, and I loved the rooftop dinners. So many people utilize the rooftops for their family meals, which creates a feeling of calm.

How can one not love that?

You can rent a comfortable one-bedroom, one-bath condo on the edge of town for approximately 14,000 MXN a month (less than $900 USD as of November 2025), which includes utilities.

The weather during Winter? Almost perfect. During the day in winter, temperatures are dry and typically in the mid-70s, while at night they drop to the low 60s, with bright days occurring virtually every day.

Because of its pleasant climate all year round, strong infrastructure, and modern comforts, It feels both livable and luxurious without being too pricey. Querétaro has clean streets, a well-preserved colonial history and architecture, and a solid economy.

The tech and industrial industries are increasing, which is beneficial for the city. Plus, did I mention the climate is wonderful all year round? It’s a definite city and one of the places to visit in Mexico during Winter, without question.
