Hotel Mio Vallarta Review: A Modern Adults-Only Escape
Looking for Hotel Mio Vallarta reviews to decide if it’s right for your vacation?
I’ve visited Puerto Vallarta many times and stayed in several hotels and Airbnbs. After my original accommodation fell through, I booked the Hotel Mio Vallarta, and I loved my stay so much that I returned a second time!
Mio Vallarta is a modern, adults-only hotel in Puerto Vallarta’s hotel zone. It offers spacious rooms, a gorgeous rooftop pool and bar area, and a convenient location for exploring the Vallarta area.
Below, I’ll share my experience and all the pros and cons of this property to help you determine if the Hotel Mio Vallarta is right for your trip!
Pros of Staying at Hotel Mio Vallarta
I was a big fan of this hotel and would definitely stay again. While the hotel isn’t waterfront, it offers beach access through a sister resort in front, and the rooftop pool, spacious rooms, and reasonable rates more than made up for not being directly on the beach.
Here are all the things I loved about staying at this resort.
Rooftop pool area
The rooftop pool offers panoramic views of Puerto Vallarta’s Banderas Bay and is an unbeatable location for watching the sunset. There’s also a rooftop bar with food service, and the cocktails are affordable.
The pool is surrounded by comfortable, cushioned sun loungers and shaded cabanas, making it the perfect spot to relax with a book and enjoy the view. You can opt for sun or shade. Sometimes, a DJ plays in the evening, but the vibe is pretty mellow overall.
During peak season, the poolside seating is occupied quickly, so go early to stake out your perfect spot, especially if you plan to watch the sunset.
The pool staff is fantastic and works extremely hard, so don’t forget to tip them well.
Spacious rooms with balconies
I stayed at the Hotel Mio Vallarta twice and booked a Deluxe Double Room both times. Both rooms were spacious, with balconies and views of the ocean. I appreciate that both rooms offered a table and a workspace with separate seating.
The showers in these rooms were enormous and had excellent water pressure with hot water, which isn’t always a given in Mexico!
Location
Hotel Mio Vallarta is located at the north end of Puerto Vallarta’s hotel zone. There are many amenities immediately surrounding the hotel and you can use Uber or registered taxis to reach popular points of interest within the city easily.
The hotel is removed from Centro and the Romantic Zone (two of the most popular neighborhoods in Vallarta), but I actually think this is a perk. Those neighborhoods can be bustling and loud, especially during high season, so it’s kinda nice to retreat to your hotel when you’re ready to wind down.
Mio Vallarta’s location is about 20 minutes from the Romantic Zone by Uber. There’s a wide sidewalk leading into Centro, where you can connect with Vallarta’s famous Malecon, so you can walk or cycle this distance (about 2.5 miles) if you want.
There are tons of amenities surrounding the hotel as well. You’ll find several restaurants within a short walk and a food truck park across the street. The La Isla Shopping Village is just a 10-minute walk up the street with shops like H&M and Tommy Hilfiger to Sunglass Hut, Starbucks, and more.
Mio Vallarta is about 2.5 miles from the Marina Vallarta neighborhood, known for its shopping and restaurants. From October through May, there’s a fun Art Market in the Marina on Thursday nights from 6 to 10 pm.
Excellent service
I found all of the staff at the Mio Vallarta to be professional, friendly, and helpful. Everyone I interacted with spoke both English and Spanish.
The front desk staff were super attentive and anticipated any challenges I might have. When I checked in, they asked when my flight was leaving on the day of checkout and offered to store my luggage since it was an evening flight. They were always quick to offer to call a taxi or assist me with my bags whenever I needed it.
The serving staff in the pool area were also fantastic. They were very busy but very on top of their duties. They checked on me regularly, so I didn’t have to leave my lounger and return to the bar to order more drinks (always a plus as a solo traveler!).
Cons of the Hotel Mio Vallarta
There’s a lot to love about this adults-only resort, but no property is perfect. Here are a couple of potential caveats to staying at Mio Vallarta.
The food is underwhelming & pricey
The hotel offered a large breakfast buffet, which was okay but not great. Unfortunately, the fruit plate I prepared for myself on the first day had some rotten items, which put me off. They do have an assortment of eggs, Mexican pan dulce, and other items, like chilaquiles, that were decent. However, you can get a better breakfast for a better price at any restaurant in Vallarta.
The bar and room service menu is limited, and the items are hit-and-miss in quality and quite pricey. I ordered several different things, but I’d only recommend the aguachile and the guacamole.
That said, the service was fantastic all around.
Ultimately, the food at Mio Vallarta won’t blow your mind, so plan to try some local restaurants while in the area. If you’re too tired to venture out, you can get by with the dining options within the hotel, but I definitely wouldn’t recommend eating there every day.
There is a food truck park with many great dining options across the road from the hotel. You’ll find several restaurants within walking distance (or a short Uber ride), and you can always order Uber Eats to the hotel, too!
It’s not on the beach
Mio Vallarta is not located right on the beach, but guests can access the beach through the sister resort in front. I actually wasn’t bothered by this at all. I’m just as content swimming and lounging by a pool, especially if there’s a view, and the Mio Vallarta certainly delivers in that sense.
I headed to Mango’s Beach Club in the 5 de Diciembre neighborhood when I wanted a beach day. They had more affordable drinks and better food than Mio Vallarta, and it was fun to leave the hotel from time to time anyway!
Hotel Mio Vallarta FAQs
Is Mio Vallarta safe for solo travelers?
Yes! I moved to this hotel because I felt unsafe in the place I’d been staying previously. I immediately felt comfortable at Mio Vallarta. The lobby is secure and continuously monitored, the staff is attentive, and the elevator is only accessible with a room key, so nobody can follow you off the street and up to your room.
Is Mio Vallarta pet friendly?
Yes! The rooms are pet-friendly and I spotted many adorable dogs staying with their families during my stay. Wide sidewalks outside the hotel make it easy to take your furry friend for a walk anytime.
How far is Mio Vallarta from the airport?
Hotel Mio Vallarta is located about 3 miles from the Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR). The trip will take 10 to 15 minutes by taxi or Uber.
Is the Hotel Mio Vallarta Worth it?
I say yes! The location, amenities, and exceptional service make Hotel Mio Vallarta a fantastic option for a Puerto Vallarta vacation. I felt very comfortable during both of my stays, and the rates were extremely reasonable. Click here to book your stay!
Although the rooftop pool terrace may be on the smaller side, I enjoyed it because it was easy to strike up conversations with fellow travelers and make friends!
While the dining experience at the hotel is underwhelming, I figure it’s just an excuse to try new restaurants around town anyway. There are lots of really great ones!
This review is so helpful! The rooftop pool and spacious rooms sound amazing, though it’s good to know the food could be better.
