If you’re headed to Mexico, I’m willing to bet you’ll spend lots of time in or around the water. Whether that’s the beach, pool, or some gorgeous cenotes, you’ll want to pick the perfect bathing suit, which is why I’ve put together a list of the best swimsuits for Mexico!
These days there are so many choices for swimsuits that it can be hard to figure out where to start. So I’ve put in the time and research to determine which swimsuits are best suited for different activities and will hold up the best.
Not to mention, all of these are super cute too! You’ll definitely want to add one of these to your Mexico packing list.
Traveling soon? Don’t forget to buy travel insurance for Mexico. Insurance gives you peace of mind knowing you can get the help you need if anything goes wrong. SafetyWing is the provider that I recommend.
What to Look for in Mexico Swimwear
Here’s the deal:
The bathing suits you choose should be based on the activities you’ll be doing while you’re in Mexico.
Planning lots of adventures like visiting the cenotes or snorkeling? It might be best to go with a one-piece bathing suit. Just want to sunbathe? A bandeau bikini will leave no tan lines on your chest.
Maybe you want cute pictures out on the beach? Suits with bold colors or pretty patterns work great for that.
You’ll also want something that holds up to wear and tear. I don’t know about you, but I hate when a bathing suit only lasts for one summer.

The Best Swimsuits for Mexico
These are one of the best bikinis for Mexico, especially if you want to lay out in the sun in search of an even tan. You won’t have any tan lines from straps wrapping around your shoulders or neck.
You’ll also want to look at how the top closes in the back. Some tie in a knot, some are one continuous piece, and others clasp through a loop. Each has its pros and cons.
For the bottoms, go with the high cut if you want to show off your booty and have the maximum tanning area available. A regular cut bikini will give you more coverage and make you more comfortable if you don’t like showing much skin.
High-waisted bottoms are fantastic for making you feel confident, and they really help when all you want to do is drink margs and eat tacos by the pool.
- This bandeau with regular cut bottoms comes in solid colors as well as fun patterns.
- The ruffles on this suit make it very feminine and cute.
- You can’t beat this fun cactus print.
- The lace-up back on this bandeau top ensures it fits securely.
Triangle Top Bikini
Triangle tops are great when you want that traditional bikini look. They are usually very strappy and sexy, so they’re another perfect option for laying out on the beach or by the pool.
You can wear this style year after year because it’s not going out anytime soon. It’s a classic! I wouldn’t wear one of these for high activity, though, as those little triangles don’t always like to stay in place if you’re very active.
The high cut or regular bikini-cut bottoms tend to look best with these tops. You can’t go wrong with either of those.
- The classic triangle by Roxy will always look great.
- This triangle bikini actually provides a little more support than the others, and the criss-cross straps in the back are so cute.
- This Roxy triangle bikini has a fun tropical pattern.
- This bikini has cute scalloped edges.
High Neck Bikini
For days when you are snorkeling, or maybe you just want a bit more coverage, the high neck look is great. These are the perfect swimsuits for Mexico if you are an outdoor enthusiast.
Another good place to wear these is on a hike if you know there will be an opportunity to swim. The only downside to the high neck is that many of them don’t have underwires. So if you are a bit bustier, this style may not work for you.
The high-waisted bottoms go great with these tops, or a traditional cut will go well too. I always like wearing these when I’m feeling sporty.
- Who doesn’t love a good reversible swimsuit?
- The fun patterns on these high-waisted bottoms plus the twist in the top make this suit a summer must-have.
One Shoulder Swimsuits
The one-shoulder has just come into style, and I am here for it. It’s the best of both worlds – sturdy enough for lots of activity but looks good enough for all the Instagram photos you want to take.
The one-shoulder bikini looks good with any bottoms that you choose. It’s honestly one of the best bikinis for Mexico. I also love the one-shoulder one-piece swimsuits, though.
Flattering and functional, what’s not to like? These are perfect for people who like to pack light and don’t want to bring a different swimsuit for every activity. This can be your all-in-one.
- I love the scalloped detailing on this bikini.
- The tie on this suit gives it a unique detail, plus the orange is a great bold color.
- The ruffles and flower mix on this one-piece is to die for!
Traditional One-Piece Suits
One-pieces are flattering on everyone, and there are all kinds of fun variations on the style these days that make it feel fresh rather than plain. From plunging necklines and cutouts to fun fabrics, embellishments, and beyond; don’t overlook this timeless style.
A good one-piece is worth its weight in gold. You can eat to your heart’s content while at the beach and not feel self-conscious. Plus there are fewer strings and ties to worry about coming undone.
I prefer a good one-piece when I know that I’m going to be really active, if I feel bloated, or if I know I’ll be doing a lot of eating and drinking that day.
- This tropical one-piece will be comfortable all day.
- You can’t say no to leopard print!
- The fun print on this suit and twist in front makes it perfect for a day on the water in style.
One-Piece Cutout Suits
Everyone LOVES the cutout style lately! For good reason, too, they look great but offer the same comfort as a traditional one-piece suit. So this is another stylish option great for lounging, but some one-pieces can still be worn for active days.
The best part about these cutout styles is that you can choose to highlight your best features. Plus, there are so many different options!
- This scalloped cutout is classic and looks absolutely gorgeous.
- The fun colors make this one perfect for a Mexico vacation!
- You might have some strange tan lines after wearing this suit, but who cares when it looks this good?!
